SM vs Pod out of undergrad
Got RO at a pod grad scheme, but also have an FT offer from a 3-7bn AUM SM with 500aum/IP. SM does “long term” work and flexes net but is usually around 40-70% net. How easy is it to go from this seat to a pod (assume this is not some big brand name like Coatue or something) in case I want to work in the risk model? Curious what my thinking should be here and tips for dilligencing the SM. I don’t know my PM, so dilligencing that will come later.
Just wondering, how did you go about getting the SM full time offer?
SM if they have strong history of training. MM otherwise. A lot of SMs don't have the same infrastructure to train juniors, and those are not the shops you want to join out of UG.
The SM offer is BS
What do you mean, as in I shouldn’t consider that offer?
Either your understanding of the firm or the way you conveyed it is incorrect. There are very few seats like that available, and none are giving offers to college kids that would consider turning it down.
If this were somehow real, as you described it, then it’s a no brainer. But again, I can’t imagine it is
If this is real, take the SM offer. We are at peak pod and a SM fund is a much friendlier environment to learn/develop at your first 2y post grad.
