Software Internship in HF Treasury Operations
Got a summer internship offer from a very large HF where I'd be working on treasury operations software. I'm aware of the FO/MO/BO distinction and hold no illusions about where general treasury work fits in that hierarchy.
That said, I read an article mentioning how certain software work in treasury operations can actually have a non trivial impact on a firm's alpha and that HF's are making significant investments in optimizing their treasury operations for leverage.
It seems like what I'd be doing in this internship would constitute such work, as I'd be developing systems to optimize rates the fund receives from brokers when we want to borrow shares for a potential short.
I get it's just an internship but how would this sort of work fit in the HF hierarchy? If I was to parlay this into a career doing the same sort of work would I be considered a BO peon? Is the article I read BS or is there some truth to it?
Thanks.
