Squarepoint Capital Fundamental arm?

Current ER junior at a top sellside firm under a T10 analyst. Seeing job openings at Squarepoint for fundamental research and wondering what the deal is with it/any insights. Was originally gunning for a decent PM's pod at MMs but Squarepoint caught my eye; have around $70bn AUM but seems to be a quant shop. The fundamental role seems new; is this an investing and/or Long/Short seat or an inhouse equity research role?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Squarepoint Capital is indeed primarily known as a quant shop. However, it seems they are expanding into fundamental research, which is likely why you're seeing job openings in that area.

As for the specifics of the role, it's hard to say without more details. It could be an investing or Long/Short seat, or it could be an in-house equity research role. It's also possible that it's a hybrid role, given the firm's quant background.

I'd recommend reaching out to the firm directly for more information, or trying to connect with current or former employees on LinkedIn. They could provide more insight into the role and the firm's shift into fundamental research.

Remember, it's always a good idea to explore all your options and keep an open mind. You never know where the best opportunities might come from!

What do you define as monetised systematically? Is this via alpha capture/idea book where researchers pitch ideas for the the fund to rank and execute? Or just an adjacent piece of research to contextualise the quant strats?

curious if fundamental researchers could exit to the pods
