The hedge fund industry in Canada

Hi all,

Could you share your thoughts on the hedge fund industry in Canada? I am interested in applying to hedge funds in Canada (want to relocate for family reasons). A little bit about myself:

Currently an Economist in an international organization in Washington DC
PhD Economics (MA/BA also in Economics - with a lot of finance)
Worked in the organization on a variety of economic topics (international macro, international finance, commodities, fiscal policy, monetary policy, trade) and countries.

I have not worked for the buy/sell side before. Given my brief profile above, what do you advise?

“He was very responsive and prepared for the meeting. He actually read the JD, resume, and looked up linkedin which sometimes other mentors doesn't actually go over those to prepare things beforehand. I appreciate his direct comments I think it saved time and actually helped me to know exactly where to improve. I also appreciated him admitting if he doesn't know about specific HF strategy. Only thing I'd suggest for him is probably sending actionable key takeaways after the meeting because other mentors did and that was very helpful. ”
