Thoughts on Valiant Capital

I'm curious about Valiant Capital in San Francisco. $2.5 billion total AUM. Public book is concentrated low-turnover tech longs, short-selling emphasis, low net. Roughly $750 million in privates (big historical wins include Facebook and Uber). Has an India-specific fund. Founder was a partner at Blue Ridge ("g cub"). Multiple analysts/partners have spun their own funds, including a $500m launch this year. Tough year in 2021, following >50% return in 2020. No idea re lifetime CAGR.

I'm curious regarding (1) culture, (2) compensation, and (3) reputation / perception. Feel free to DM if sensitive.

Seems like a great place.

They look at all opportunities internationally, and have high standards. Talked to an employee who said they may look at a company for 8 years before investing which I personally like.

Seemed very intelligent, objective, and not concerned about typical things on Wall St (like prestige or anything like that). Got the sense that was representative of the whole company, not just that employee.

I also looked at their deals on PitchBook and was mostly in Silicon Valley, India, and China. He said that was just the way it turned out and was not intentional but goes to show where innovation is coming from. They seem to be on top of it.
