Trading Returns

Just curious as to what returns traders look for in short term trades. When building out quant systems are there hard loses and gains that while trigger a sell/exit point? More curious on hard stops after gains are made rather than ride the winners. With there being a variety of trading strategies, what is the smallest gain (%) traders would look for when building a short term trading strategy for it to be worth it? (covering transaction costs, slippage, etc.)
