What do you do as an equity analyst at a quant shop?

Wanted to ask anyone who works as an equity analyst at a quant firm like SIG or Optiver what the job is like and how it differs from working in a L/S pod.

I understand you are working alongside traders but what work does that entail and what skill sets are necessary? I’m not very familiar with the space and any insight is much appreciated

Equity analysts there mainly assist the traders market-making options instead of taking on long/short delta opinions. While there certainly are (short-term) delta bets to be made on events and news headlines, equity analysts here do a lot of work on timing and vol modeling/estimates for earnings, corporate events, and other vol-impactful news for the events in the sector they cover.
