What do you expect from a 4YOE analyst?

I started my career on the buyside as an equity analyst for a LO and moved shortly after to a small L/S. Now about 4YOE, working as a generalist with global coverage. Plan to move elsewhere and getting ready for that.

I work my ass off, receive few feedbacks from my PM (which are very positive), but I don't have many connections with other L/S analyst so I don't have a real measure to understand how I work, how I would compare with respect to peers having similar experience or with a background in IB.

For Senior Analysts and PMs out there, what do you expect from an analyst knocking to your door with my experience? What's absolutely essential to have and what makes a candidate with a similar experience outstanding?

It's a shitty position to be in while recruiting. Most funds either want an experienced analyst w sector expertise (generally 7+ YOE) or fresh out of undergrad/IB+PE cycle.

You will differentiate yourself really by having good stock pitches. If your pitches are meh, people generally prefer moldable candidates (IBPE, consulting or fresh of undergrad). I'm saying "generally", def possible to succeed this way tho. Don't expect it to be an easy move.
