What to say if new firm asks about previous firm's positions?
I'm a relatively junior person without a non-compete moving from one cross cap/distressed fund to another distressed fund (more credit focused); what do I say if my new firm asks what my previous firm owned/owns?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, you should never disclose confidential information about your previous firm's positions. If asked, a professional and ethical response would be:
"I have no comment on my current firm's positions. However, this is what I think about this security..." and then proceed to lay out your independent thesis.
Remember, future employers will judge your professionalism based on how you handle such situations. If you share confidential information now, they might assume you'd do the same if you were to leave their firm in the future. Always maintain integrity and avoid discussing proprietary details.
