Work in hedge fund in China or Singapore

Hi everyone, I’m 23 years old and currently living in Morocco . I’m planning to study a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in finance in China and to combine this with the CFA program . Would this background be sufficient to work at a hedge fund in China, Hong Kong, Singapore , Dubai , or other Asian financial centers as a foreigner? I’d appreciate your insights. Thank you.

What nationality or race are you - African or Chinese? You have to think hard about what edge you have. If you are African and speak no Mandarin, you have no edge at all against the thousands of very smart Chinese analysts in China who already speak the language fluently, and have a Masters - all very basic requirements.

You can learn Mandarin and get a Masters. But you are unlikely to ever reach the same level of fluency that a native speaker has. In addition, what edge these analysts have over you, is that they already have local networks and insights, sector knowledge, old high school friends and alumni network - all people that they can potentially call up to ask for more intimate knowledge of companies. That kind of network is not something that a foreigner can easily build.

I think the situation is almost exactly the same in Hong Kong and Singapore.

You have to think what edge you offer to hedge funds that would be in demand to them.
