WSAT - wall street admissions test
Hi all,
I'm going through some applications and saw that one HF requires you to take the WSAT. I've never heard of this and searched the site to try to find something on it, but couldn't find any topics on it (maybe i'm not cut out for research).
Has anyone taken this? Just want to know what I'll be getting into before I dive in.

I just got a call from a firm that I took the WSAT for. These jobs are real. A bunch of jobs are posted on the street of walls website
P.S. A friend of mine at Wharton was asked to take the WSAT by SAC Capital. I guess they are using this test too...I'm hearing a bunch of firms are using it now. Anyone know if there is a study guide anywhere? I see a practice test online
Brett/Adam, this is really getting old. Creating new account, trying your best trying to make it sound legit by dropping "Wharton" and "SAC"...I'm happy for you that you have 1 firm that agreed to look at the WSAT test scores...
Again, I would encourage everyone to look at the Bloomberg Assessment Test instead of this test.

yeah a bunch of firms (including top hedge funds like SAC and some tiger cubs) are starting to use the WSAT to screen applicants. i've taken it... it's like a general assessment test that includes math, logic, finance, accounting, economics, etc.

So there has been a little bit of this talk on here before but wasn't sure if anyone else has come across this. I sent my resume to MTS Health Partners and they got back to me saying to take the WSAT...Wall Street Admissions Test.
Has anyone else noticed a trend in other firms using this? Does anyone else think its kind of childish?
Took it the other day... I can understand in principle why they administer it: it's come to the point where the labor pool is too awash with talent and they need another indicator. Plus, most of the firms that use it are firms looking for experienced hires so they're better prepared for the test. If you're coming out of undergrad expect to get dominated; with that in mind you can relax for the test and just get it out of the way. At the end of the day you can always make up for a low score in interviews by knowing your stuff.
No legit firm is every going to use this. What a joke.
I interviewed with a firm that used this. It was a small boutique of ~25 professionals. One of the VPs handled recruiting, and that usually worked fine since they didn't make regular junior hires. He said that he received 1400 applications for 1 analyst position. The test allowed him to filter through a lot of the bs candidates. There ended up being 6 candidates for the 1 spot.

MM and BB firms prob wouldn't use this. Maybe smaller boutiques with very little head count.
I would agree some small firms will use WSAT to recruit.

it's definitely not easy.. and something you should take seriously. i would say it's a combination of a technical question interview / GMAT / modelling test. hope that makes sense. it helped me get an interview at one of the HFs listed on their job board.

I just took it. I didn't see any geometry. My roommate took it and didn't see any geometry either. I heard the test changes every time though, so I can't answer for sure.
Don't bother w/ WSAT, it's a b/s scam run by some shady folks who mimic legitimate firms to try and get kids to take this test. Hell even Patrick had some shit to say:

I took the practice test online. It didn't seem easy to me, but it seems like the questions are real-life questions that we would have to prove we know. The practice test didn't let me know if my answers were right or wrong though. That could have been helpful. Anyone know if they provide an answer key for the practice test? What is Firefly? I saw that on their site. Their is no company description. I think I want to study up a bit more before actually taking the test. Would like to hear more feedback from other people that have taken the test or any other information on hiring firms using it.
Was just asked to take this as a 2nd round interview. Are the questions multiple choice? Should I have a financial calc handy and Excel? Is it timed? Does it tell you your results? While i think this is a great way to separate the men from the boys, it's getting me a little nervous....maybe cause im a boy?
