Desperate need of advice

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for advice on how to transition into Sales after spending a year in Operations. Just a little background about myself - Graduated in 2013 with bachelors from a non-core school.. Started fulltime with a BB in Operations after graduation. Had a few medical issues couple of months after starting so got side tracked from trying to get out of Ops. But I've been here for about a year now and I'm focused on getting out again!

I've been netowrking internal a lot and hit it off with a MD in Sales. Got offer to go into a Sales role but HR shot it down in a heartbeat so my only hope is externally. Really want to do Sales.

I know there are many forums about how to move out of backoffice but given this day and age, I feel its much more tougher and complicated to go from back to front. Can anybody advise? I'd love to talk to anybody who has experience or insights into this. I

What do you mean HR shot it down? If a managing director in sales wants you, he/she gets you. All that HR red tape bullshit can be set aside. I think that either the MD or you didn't fight for it enough. Alternatively, your current boss in ops may have said no. I've seen this happen before and it's a real dick move, if true.

I was told by HR I couldn't transition internally until after 18 months of working at the bank. I made my move way earlier than that.

the MD referred me to his HR contact after couple of meetings. Everything was going fine then my HR (Ops program HR) called me flipping out. I stood my ground & reached out to the MD who assured me everything will be okay. A day later I sit down with the HR team, who were basically saying no way in hell. after the meeting, the MD calls me saying it'll be easier in 2 years when my contract is over and he promises me a spot. Now the MD is in London.

What contract?

Flake, do you mind me asking your background? Were you in Ops before? If so, how'd you make the move to ER
