Google Changes Stance on Censorship?
Google is currently developing a mobile search app that would comply with China's censorship laws. This news caused Baidu's stock to fall 7.7% yesterday after beating expectations only a day earlier. To re-enter the market, Google would have to get through regulators from both the United States and China. There is still substantial internal debate within the firm about the ethics of working with a government that would restrict content on the platform, especially considering that this ethical concern led Google to leave the market previously.
Will Google re-establish itself in China? If so, what implications will it have?
