Help with becoming more familiar with the financial world

I've been trying to read more about stocks and generally just what's happening in the financial industry, but often feel overwhelmed by a lot of the stuff I see. Any advice on where to start so I can build from there?

without knowing your background, I'd say just look up any term you don't understand on investopedia. from there, some of the explanation won't make sense so look up those terms on investopedia, and go from there.

if I was teaching finance to someone who had literally no idea what anything was, I'd explain the concepts of capitalism, capital markets, micro & macro econ, and then point them to some of the classic books out there.

full disclosure, if you really don't know that much it will take you more than a few evenings of browsing the internet to get a baseline understanding.

does that help?
