Where is the PLA's Money Going?

China spends about 2/3 of what the US spends on its military when adjusted for PPP (Chinese hardware is domestically produced, so PPP is a better measure as they don't buy assets from other countries like India, Canada or Australia does), but where is it going?

The US has 11 bloated carriers, while China has 1.5 (?). The US has a far larger number of 5th gen fighters while China has a smaller complement of 4th gen fighters.

China has twice the standing army, but once again, their wages, food costs and such are much lower.

Unless China is hiding a secret nuclear submarine fleet in the low ten thousands, there is no explanation as to where their military spending is going. Is it possible that they have literally dozens of supercarriers hidden underground in Siberia that nobody knows about?
