Where to find iron ore (and other commodity) prices?
May be a silly question but where do I find iron ore price? FT, Bloomberg, TR - none of them list iron ore.
I found it on indexmundi but the price seems wrong (should be
Then I found swap prices on CME - http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/metals/ferrous/iron-ore-62pct-fe-cfr-ch…
They look reasonable but I don't know which one I should be looking at? As far as I understand different months = different contract maturities?
What about spot rate? Is that available somewhere? Thanks:)
Infomine and capiq
So at infomine there are the iron ore fines prices: http://www.infomine.com/investment/metal-prices/iron-ore-fines/
But still I don't think they are the ones all the newspapers are referring to. According to all recent articles iron ore is below 50: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=iron+ore+below+50&gws_rd=ssl eg http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-04-02/iron-ore-seen-extendi…
What's your take?
It sounds like the The Steel Index https://www.thesteelindex.com/?cid=124&lng=en is the key data provider on spot iron ore price.
Can someone explain why is it that for some commodities prices are widely available (eg for metals - copper, gold, palladium, platinum, silver) but for others it is impossible to find spot rates (iron ore)?
Is this something to do with how they are traded? Is there anything I can read to better understand this?
