1st Year Analyst in Investment Grade DCM - Advice needed

Hi,

I’m a 1st year Analyst in the IG DCM origination group at a BB who falls in the Top 3 for global LT every year.

I’ve started to realize this isn’t for me, as I feel like on the origination side you are just a process monkey. I really only send clients pricing levels, maintain databases, and work on pitchbooks with no exposure to modeling.

Because of the vanilla nature of IG DCM, there is very little strategic thinking in terms of financing solutions as well. I enjoy credit but I think i’d be better off in M&A or a coverage group for more future optionality.

DCM seems like a great gig for a career banker but I just don’t find the work fulfilling.

Would appreciate any insight on how soon i should look to move (6 mo in currently) and if anyone has done similar.

Thanks,
