2 months off before I start...

Hi guys

I have about 10 weeks between my current job and starting as an analyst in IBD at a BB in London. What should I do?

I'm not interested in CFA, GMAT, etc. I just want to go to a cool place, have some fun, relax, and enjoy life before I no longer have one.

I want to go somewhere on the cheaper side, although everywhere is cheaper than london, and I don't want to travel too much when I'm there. It would also be good to learn some sort of skill to keep my busy. I could easily sit on the beach doing nothing for 10 weeks and I don't want to get sucked into this.

Could someone recommend some locations and things to do?

I am considering the following:

  1. MMA camp (never done this before and sounds super intense) and scuba diving in Thailand

  2. Learning how to surf and dive in Brazil, probably somewhere a little North (heard good things about Vitoria) as it is their winter.

  3. Surfing/diving in South Africa.

Anyone have any other ideas or experiences?

24 yo male by the way.

get yourself in as good shape as possible and do maintenance workouts when you start. the lifestyle is total shit enough as it is but if you are in bad shape/health, it is 10XX worse.

i disagree with the traveling alone part. Everyone I have talked to really enjoyed being able to set their own schedule - think of it as going abroad.. you are essentially going somewhere yourself. In a similar situation, I decided to go to Thailand/Southeast Asia alone before the start of my program. There are beautiful beaches and a really unique culture to explore in many countries. You will likely not have 10 weeks to mess around and see the world until before you go to B school or if you have garden leave between jobs. Don't let the possibility that you may not have friend along stop you.

I found that Southeast Asia was incredibly cheap - you can get beachside bungalows for $15-25/day, there are 50 cent beers, and great food for a few dollars. Additionally, there are a ton of backpackers in those areas traveling in groups or alone and it is really easy to meet people.

I have friends who did the same in South America and another who did surfing school in Bali/Australia and had a blast! South Africa is beautiful as well, but there are way fewer backpackers. I found that Cape Town was not as cheap as Peru or Thailand. Have fun.

Ohhh brazil sounds great! Then again that's probably because I want to travel South America the summer after I graduate if I'm lucky enough to get this type of gap...
