2020 Summer Bonus Cycle Rumors
Analysts/ Associates at BBs/EBs following a summer bonus cycle: what have you heard about YoY comp? Expecting some impact from COVID, but wondering how drastic it will be given some comp would presumably reflect a strong 2H19. Has any bank announced number yet?
To add another question- shouldn't bonuses be pretty good in theory? A summer bonus should reflect the 2nd half of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, which should all be really strong. Even if the 25% of the bonus that corresponds to march onwards (during covid) were to be 0, shouldn't bonuses be within 25% of a normal year still? I get this is unusual and firms might scale back more, but it just seems unfair given that the vast majority of the bonus period was good times.
Those were my thoughts, but on the other hand if the firm has balance sheet concerns, and knows job opportunities aren’t currently plentiful for would-be-departing analysts, I could see the potential for a significant cut. Curious to see if any has heard anything.
Would also be a kick in the balls if your firm pays bonuses for every level above analyst in the winter (pre-COVID) and analyst in the summer. Will find out in 8 days.
