2026-27 IB Energy Top Banks

Hey, I hope you are all well.

I have been reading quite a few past threads on the top banks for energy investment banking (including P&U, O&G and some infra as some groups include it in their energy teams), but some of them are quite outdated or there are very few comments and there are very different opinions across the threads.

I am mainly interested in your opinions for top banks in Houston and NY. I understand NY is more P&U and Houston O&G but I would greatly appreciate your views on the top banks in both cities. Would be great if anyone could also mention the best groups in London.

Thank you very much for your help!

Yeah, it's also weird that EVR seems to have pulled back from upstream deals in Europe, despite its strong reputation in the O&G industry

Upstream focus, London-specific(quite different from Housotn)

Tier 1: JPM / GS / Jeff /Barclays

-> dominant players in the market

Tier 2: MS / Citi / LEA / KLC / HL / Roths

-> dedicated teams, but not quite at the top

Tier 3: Bofa / RBC

-> historically had strong energy teams, but seem less active these days

evr, moe, pjt ??

This is super helpful, thank you very much. Do you have any insights on midstream and downstream as well as P&U and infra? Thanks!

For Houston, I think there was a post on WSO discussing what are some top banks in the Oil and Gas space:

Clearly the Industry leader: GS, JEF, EVR, JPM, RBC(maybe)

Strong / Rising groups: Citi, MOE, TPH (maybe falling), Mizuho, Barc, Piper, BofA

Some relevant players: RJ, TD, LAZ, PJT, HL (+Intrepid), Petrie, MS

New groups: Roth, Cantor

Interesting, I thought the EBs would be a bit higher up (exc. EVR obviously). Would you have a similar ranking for NY? Thank you!
