2027 IB Summer Analyst Timeline

What is the right timeline for a well positioned current college Freshman to have in mind for next IB recruitment cycle? I was thinking:

  • Aug–Oct: networking
  • Nov–Feb: interview + technical prep
  • Feb–March: recruitment

Let me know if this is right, the target would be BB & EB firms

I would start "prepping" before you ask anybody for their time. I don't mean the 400 question guide per say, but have at least a somewhat nuanced understanding of banking and what groups actually do. Most importantly have a very solid "tell me about yourself/why IB" before you hop on any calls.

I would also add that all of these "blocks" should ideally blend together somewhat. To stop networking months before applications drop would be a very bad mistake. There are a million stories of people getting offers because they continued networking deep into recruiting season and a random chat got them a first round in a process that already "started".

At least based on what happened this year, quite a few EBs and BBs started their processes in Jan, so you might want to consider moving that part of your timeline up.

Also - no need to network as early as August. Wait until end of Sept or early Oct.
