2.4 freshmen GPA at a nontarget, is it over for me?

Currently going into my sophomore year doing Engineering at a school well known for engineering but not so much for business. All I can say is that the college transition hit me like a bus and I ended my freshman year with a 2.4 Cumulative GPA. I was starting to look into IB internships for next summer but I see people here worried about having a 3.5 and even a 3.7 GPA.

I did do an M&A internship at an extremely small firm in my area this past summer. And I have two connections who could help me get my foot in the door/get an interview. Nothing like my dad being an MD tho. Aside from that, no other undergrad extracurriculars.

Looking at my GPA + Experiences, is IB out of the cards for me or is it worth a shot to recruit for next summer?

Purdue? I don't think IB is completely out of the cards but I think you might want to lower your expectations in regards to firm because most BB's and EB's are probably completely out of the question as they have GPA screeners. I really don't mean to be negative nancy but I think its important to set realistic expectations for yourself so you don't end up being disappointed. I would try to snag another relevant internship fall of sophomore year off-cycle and do the best you can to push that GPA up. I would heavily target regional boutiques/ LMM IB and don't limit yourself to just IB. I would explore the other avenues of finance and see which pique your interest. If you had a good SAT score in HS I would also probably put that on your resume just to atleast show some other datapoint besides your college GPA. Network aggressively and effectively. I believe in you, you got this!
