2nd year analyst bonus after leaving bank
So I finished my two-year analyst program and left my bank a month before bonuses were announced. What’s the usual protocol in these situations, does someone contact you with your bonus number or do people usually wait until it hits your bank account?
I can tell you your bonus: $0
Bruh lmao
Are you fucking stupid or are you stupid?
You forfeited your bonus unless this was a negotiated exit…I’m actually surprised you didn’t explore this before leaving….
No trolls on Mondays.
Someone please tell me this isn’t real
First of all, come on man…But to answer your question. In our employment contracts it states a last day required to be employed to qualify for optional compensation. At GS where I just left, it was June 30th. Would consider you read that first. As far as communication, most staffers will email your personal email to set up a time to quickly chat. If on bad terms, maybe not and it’ll just hit your account. To get timing, it’s best practice to just as the first years in the group as they’re on the same cycle as you assuming you didn’t get a stub.
my bank's performance year runs through June 30, but the last day required to qualify is April 30. So if someone leaves in May, would you expect a lower bonus # than peers? I assume if they know you're leaving you'll get a smaller bonus compared to people staying for 3rd year/A2A?
Pretty sure that has nothing to do with people who leave before bonuses. What it means is that if someone laterals to your bank before April 30th, they will be eligible for a partial (likely 2 month pro-rated) bonus in the summer. If they join after April 30th, they aren't eligible to receive a bonus in the current cycle.
Many banks have a stipulated last day required to be employed to receive a bonus and it is usually no more than a couple weeks before the bonuses hit the account --definitely not 3 months before bonuses are paid. If you leave in May, I can pretty much guarantee you will not be receiving anything.
No way lol bad news for you
OP here. Maybe I misspoke. I, like a lot of 2nd year analysts that didn’t want to stay on to get promoted to ASO, completed the full 2 year program and left at the end of June. Expectation usually is, if I’m not mistaken, that you will still receive your bonus if you do not leave before your agreed upon end date, even though bonus numbers are not announced till after 2nd years leave. Not saying I left before program was finished. Just wanted to get insight on other Analysts who are/were in this situation, but probably HR will reach out
lots of people do this of course, i just became a second year so idk how it works but i would think you would talk to whoever runs this BEFORE you leave the firm to confirm that you can leave, no?

Yeah this is totally normal. At my EB last day was early July and in August HR reached out to schedule calls to give numbers.
Nice
I think people are really misunderstanding this - it's totally normal for summer bonus banks to let analysts leave around June and still get bonuses in August. It's not quitting early that is just the agreed upon exit date
At my bank someone (staffer) will contact you and give you a number before the bonus clears
Thanks for clearing that up. Very surprising to see a lot of people on this thread who supposedly work in IB get this completely wrong. But perhaps the post was poorly worded
All of the second years in my class that were leaving left in July as well, we even had a going away group party. Leaving prior to bonuses being paid out seems to be common in my group given garden leave.
