A couple questions on education and experience
Hi all,
I've been reading this website for quite a while (unregistered), but I now have a fairly specific question that searches can't seem to provide an answer to. As some quick background, I'm 26 years old and received an admission to UMich for Fall 2012 (into LSA) as a transfer.
1) I understand there are a number of inherent advantages to Ross over doing LSA Economics, from BB recruiting to grade inflation. I already have 60 credits (from going to school prior to my time in my current career) approved by UMich, and since I missed (due to lacking a requirement) Ross admission for Fall 2012, I'd have to wait until 2013. I intend to try to take the sophomore level courses from Ross this year so that I can enter as a junior in Fall 2013 (I'll find out on Wednesday if this is impossible for any reason). However, they have a structured course plan which means you can not really graduate any sooner than December of senior year. My understanding is that is outside most of the big BB recruiting window, and I would be at a severe disadvantage in this scenario, correct?
2) As mentioned previously, I'm 26 years old. I have 7 years of intelligence analysis experience - 5 with the military and 2 with private companies. I've done everything from strategic analysis to re-organizing/wholly creating intelligence organizations to brokering deals with outside entities (other nations embassies, private corporations etc) for information sharing. Inside our community it's an extremely solid resume. I also have 4 years of experience managing analysts. While I imagine there is not a great deal of "cross-over" between the two sectors (ours deals with a lot more unknowns, though there still is some level of quantitative/statistical analysis as well as the creation/use of probabilities in predictive analysis), I was wondering what, if any, consideration would be given to this experience when applying for internships and ultimately a full-time position at a BB (or PE for an internship, perhaps)?
I am still waiting to hear back from UVa and UT-Austin's undergrad business programs. In the mean time, Michigan is the best I have to work with. As much as I don't enjoy the idea of graduating at 28 years old with a BBA (or almost 29 as a dual major), that seems to be the route I'm forced down for the time being.
Thank you very much for any insight that anyone can provide me. I appreciate it, and all of the other great information over the years.
