About to get fired - Need Help
Associate at a bulge bracket. I knowingly made a bad analytical mistake and ignored the review because it was passed deadline. On top of that, I accidentally sent confidential information in an email that was CC'd with the wrong people. It led to us losing a huge client, and I don't work at UBS so I won't be promoted for it.
I really hate my team so I could really care less about their bonuses, I'm more worried that I might not ever be able to work in IB again. Please help.
One guy did this in my associate class and got whacked. He now runs a successful MM PE firm so the jokes on the rest of us
At BB's it's actually hard to get fired. No one on the team really has a say because they have to get the green light from HR to start a PIP, give a bad formal review or zero bonus, etc. If the mistake was truly egregious then they'll wait for the next round of layoffs to cut you. They'd much rather have you resign on your own then have to fire you and open themselves up to liability. BB's hate firing people. If it were me I'd just own up to the mistake immediately and continue on like nothing happened while applying for laterals in the background.
If you get canned, make sure your U5 doesn't reflect the "mistake"
Go on FMLA/medical leave ASAP and recruit
