Advice - MD wants to meet me
Recently an MD on a BB IB team reached out to me. They had gotten hold of my resume and said they're looking to bring a first year analyst on to the team. I'm one year out of school (non-target) in another finance role (non-IB). The MD asked to meet me over lunch and is also bringing a VP and Associate. They also asked me to apply formally to the position as soon as it opened and sent me the application as soon as it went live. We're set to meet next week. I know this is an 'interview' that is also not an interview. I've never been in this sort of situation and am unsure what to expect. My initial conversations with the team have been mostly behavioral and informational. They have asked what my experience with excel and power point is and why I want to move from my current role. Everything else has been relatively light and very informal. I have my story, technicals (most of them), and behavioral questions down. Since it's an informal setting, I'm not quite sure what to expect. Any advice or thoughts?
Was this out of the blue? I'd be curious why they're scouting you out personally. I'd somehow ask about this.
Be chill, courteous, and on time - they were the ones that asked for your time so they should be pitching you imo.
Prepare as if it was an interview and be ready to pitch yourself but it could also go very casual and in that case you should have some interesting questions and be able to talk intelligently about some deals or news you’ve been following and why you’re looking to move etc etc.
What likely happened is that spot opened up and they want to speak to people they’ve met before instead of going through a stack of random resumes because it saves so much time. So the good thing is that they like something about you and now it’s up to you to convince them to hire you.
Not sure what you did but congratulations! They must really like you to be doing this and you're in a very rare position. Never happened to me, but from what I can guess I want to say it'll be pure behavioral. Why that firm, your background, and beyond that, just getting to know you personally. If they've done all of what you said, they probably know they want you, they just need to see if they'd like working with you. I doubt there'd be more than one or two technicals. But again, I've never been in this situation. You're probably overthinking things. Be confident and you'll do well
Congrats, man. Let me know what you did to get this meeting lol
