Advice on a job offer
Well gentleman (and ladies), I was offered a position with a wealth management firm that will allow me to get my Series 7 cert. Currently I am 22 and in graduate school. I am going for my MBA and MS in Finance. The job will work around my schedule. I have an internship with Merrill Lynch under my belt. Should I take this position? I currently have a job with the government in the USDA. And the eventual goal is an Ib job with a BB. Advice please!
Andrew
study hard and get a full time gradute IB internship then Full time offer-------------> Bang !
So is that a don't take the job?
Is it retail wealth management, or private wealth (much richer clients) of a BB? The latter would give you better lateral access within the bank.
In general, wealth management is quite different than most other functions. It'll give you good sales training and get you licensed. But I don't think it'll be a easy transition to another role.
Is this a full time summer internship? If so, given that it's already late May... what other options do you have?
Full time period. I own a house in Philadelphia at 22 years of age. It is a Private Wealth at a boutique. I am currently not going to a target grad program, having only realized recently my total interest in I-banking. I can stay with my non-finance job at the government is my other option. Oh, and I already work a 40 hour a week job and have a 4.0. Considering I worked 2 full time jobs and one part time job in college, I am sure that I can handle long hours,
Unless I am missing some key facts, it seems clear you should take the job. There can be a debate if you had different offers or functions to consider. But if this is your only options, why would you not take it? I mean, that IS why you're in school right, to get jobs in the industry?
Are there external reasons causing you to second-guess?
