To the above posters: I was not "stalking", no privacy was invaded and no one was hurt otherwise either. I am sharing the story because it is "extraordinary". I thought some people who know the industry well enough might be able to shed some lights on how likely/unlikely this may happen, what are the possible reasons it has happened, and if this sort of things happen often enough to suggest a change in hiring trend etc. By the way, I was told that the student had the return offer for another internship at Goldman for junior summer.

I don't understand what you're asking, but I do agree that it is a bit odd that you called her parents. Maybe her parents were GS clients, maybe they new a partner, maybe all the guys at GS think she's smoking hot...who knows....
