any chance to start banking as VP?

Just finished my summer associate gig and realized there's no way I want to spend 6 years just to get to 3rd year vp. Are boutiques willing to start people out as vp or 3rd year associate if they have the requisite work experience (think 4 years of legal practice)?

know it is possible to go to vp at BB if you were to work for a top 10 practice, but don't know about anything about boutiques or comming from a less prestigious practice. 4 years is fine.

I know of a fresh VP in M&A who came out of Corp Dev with an F500... I think he had some banking background at the Analyst and/or Associate level. Also know a senior Associate who came from law, but didn't get boosted in years because of it (that I know of).

is that the BB's will screw you in terms of tenure (if you have 4 years at biglaw, you will come in as 2nd/3rd year assoc rather than 1/2nd year VP). The people who come in as VP's generally have enough experience to almost be MD's (they effectively discount experience anywhere except the buyside, but no one really moves from the buyside to banking). You will have more success with boutiques who are more likely to value experience
