Anyone else just feel apprehensive about it all?

This is probably just me freaking out before it all begins, but does anyone else just feel apprehensive about starting their IB internships?

First, for me, I'm heading to NYC and leaving my home state for the first time in my life and it's just going to be weird literally not having a friend there--no one from my class is going to be there and I know some people here and there, but not too well and they're older and whatnot.

Second, it's just the job itself. I've never had a corporate job and it seems a bit overwhelming to be thrown into the sharks, so to speak, to have to learn all the banking stuff and navigate the politics. And I've never been the totally outgoing type, and I will make an effort to get to know everyone, but jeez, I sound like a total loser, but what if I just don't hit it off with anyone...

This sounds like one damn whiny post but anyone else in the same boat?

First, don't worry everything will be fine!

I can remember having a feeling similar to yours, but consider this. They hired you because you're smart enough to do the work and they like you enough to be around you constantly. Be resourceful, ask appropriate questions (at appropriate times), be happy, join people for lunch/coffee, go out with the analysts if they invite you, make friends with the other interns, etc.

You really will be fine and look back saying "why was I so nervous?"

Just take a deep breath and relax. Life is all about new experiences. You don't get anywhere in life if you stay within your comfort zone. The more you worry about every conceivable problem you may run into, the more likely it is to happen.

chill dude. and dont express this to people when you get there, it will be perceived as weakness. if you crush remember this feeling as a humility thing.

Thanks for the input and sorry to sound like BeenOverPrepping. With a bunch of free time, I've probably have had too much time to worry about it all. And I guess the biggest thing is not the work--I can more than push myself to work really hard but it's hard for me to see myself balance that with getting to know the analysts and especially as a soph. and being under 21 truthfully.

But I'm excited and will definitely go in with a good mindset!!

There is no progress without struggle. I personally love feeling like I suck at something because all it means is there's room for improvement. Think about how boring life would be if you never got nervous and were perfect at everything? You would never know what the feeling of accomplishment and self-improvement was. Just think about what you've done to get this far and go get what's yours. Just remember "Life begins where your comfort zone ends".

I was thinking the same thing. Unless you live in Hawaii or Alaska there really isn't an excuse you could give for not driving a few hours to the neighboring state.

I interpreted it as first time living/working outside the state. I mean he had to have had onsite interviews right?
