Anyone else just LOL at people in IB that panic/freak out all the time

Never seen a group of people that have such short fuzes for emotional freakouts.

MDs getting worked up over email over formatting/comments/timeline

VPs/ Senior Associates who get stressed at MD emails and then panic and lose all composure with the junior team

Analysts who have breakdowns over outlook email alerts

Is there any industry with this many people who panic/freak out like this.  Is anyone in IB calm/cool/collected?

i also think lack of sleep makes people more emotional.  i was in the military before and we had a commander who never slept on deployment and became extremely erratic and would freak out all the time over things.   he never rested/slept when we had downtime.  we actually had an intervention like experience with his boss to tell him that he needed to start sleeping more so he wasnt out of control all the time.

What are you like when you deal with things like this? How do you remain calm/collected ? Think it’s also fairly group based and how the culture is within.

Funniest

The best way personally for myself was to imagine myself as a traveler in Dantes inferno, I was within the 3rd circle (gluttony), being continually bogged down in a putrid slush (endless tick and tie, bullshit formatting, etc). As Dante put it Cerberus (VPS, SAs) ravenously mauls and flays you and your cohorts (analyst class) with claws as you howl like dogs.

This made it a bit easier to deal with - 3rd circle is bad, but its close to the 1st circle (for unbaptized and the virtuous pagans). While they are not sinful enough to warrant damnation, they did not accept christ (leaving for a better job). Most of us are stuck together in the inferno / purgatorio: Were all trying to get to the paradiso.

just stop caring lol, they literally can't/won't fire you because there's such a hardcore lack of talent right now. Also once you stop caring it goes away, this is a horrible industry to be prideful/proud, one of those "I don't take shit from anybody!" type of guys because all you do is take shit from people. Once you realize it's just business as usual and become more stoic and detached about it, it's a walk in the park. Do NOT take anything personally ever, trust me, you're just a number/factor/etc. it's never that deep (even when it seems that way)

Yeah, it is pretty hilarious. I myself was fairly neurotic in my first year, but eventually I wised up and realized (almost) nothing is ever as serious as it's made out to be by seniors. Some of the senior bankers in my group were wound up so tight and had sticks so far up their asses that it's a miracle their feet even touched the ground. Once you cross that mental barrier yourself, everyone else's neuroticism becomes glaringly obvious and you ask yourself how you were ever like that. It got to the point where it was challenging for me to ever take some people seriously after watching them demonstrate they have the emotional maturity and stability of a toddler.
