Anyone not motivated by money because your parents are wealthy

I got a really good bonus and TC is like rubbing up on $200k as a first year. That is cool but the money doesn't really matter for me. If it did I feel like I'd be able to stay more motivated.

Most people don't want to admit this but the vast majority are motivated by low self-esteem issues at a certain point of earnings.

For you, it may be day one as you clearly don't need the money but do feel like you have to prove yourself in a tough career for family and friends to think you have worth.

But suppose you grew up poor and are now a VP or higher with lots of exit opportunities to easier jobs, are you really motivated by money or do you just need to "feel successful" so you keep grinding? With the skills you've built up to that point and resources, you can go make a decent living for much less work. You won't be poor again.

Do you really need that Porsche versus your series 3 BMW and what does that have to with your growing up poor? It's a self-esteem issue related to insecurities in your head as a result of feeling less than from being poor as a kid. But rather than work on those self-esteem issues, you use your previous poverty in life to not think too hard about what you're doing or why.

"Why do I need a mansion and a Porsche 911? Oh yeah, I grew up poor. Now it's a noble pursuit. Don't need to think too hard about all this. Let me make fun out of this kid on WSO who doesn't need the money and just wants to prove himself to the world. Oh wait shit, I don't need the money anymore either and that's me! No no no, I'm different. Remember, I grew up poor!"
