Applying for return offer when having signed internship for next summer

I am interning at a firm this summer and have already signed for my junior summer at another firm. The recruiter at my current firm is basically requiring us to apply for intern return offers by this week (telling us that if we don't want to come back we should tell them), and I am sure I will get one if I apply. There is still around a month of the internship left.

Would it be a bad move to apply for a return offer with no intention of taking it? What else should I be considering, and what is the best course of action?

If anyone is in a similar position and share their plans, that would also be appreciated.

If you wanted the return offer you shouldn't have accepted at another firm.

Just tell the firm you enjoyed your time but had to accept because it wouldn't have made sense to take a gamble on something not guaranteed. Almost certain they won't be too concerned.

Do not apply for a return offer if you are not going to take it. Tell your current bank the truth that you secured a junior summer internship with another BB before you took this internship. It happens a lot now w the moved up timelines. Don't worry, they won't hold it against you during the next month. It's fine just don't lie that could come back to haunt you.
