Are previous qualifications neccessary to start a career in investment banking?

I am currently 27 years old and serving in the British Military. I started my service straight from high school (16 yrs old) and therefore I have no other further education. I am considering ending my service and entering into a career in investment banking. My question is whether a degree in business finance or even any degree at all is essential to starting out in this career path?

yes/no....you don't need to...military vets have a unique avenue to get into finance (Vets like to hire other vets)....however, you still have to deal with the other 1000 vets who are applying for the same spot that you are. As always, a personal connection is worth more than a fancy degree. Look for bankers who are also veterans...and then try to connect with them...ask for a 15 min chat about the industry...and then try to parlay that chat into an analyst position.

Usually the military pays for college...so if the coffee chat process doesn't result in a job, go use that GI Bill money to pay for college.
