Asking for time off before starting?

I just accepted a January start IB ft offer and I’m trying to figure out how to ask for time off.

Basically in March, my close friend is getting married one weekend and the weekend after is the birthday of an immediate family member who passed suddenly this year, so I need to be home with my family. Both of these events are important to me, and I’d probably have to ask for half or all of friday off along with the weekend both times. Would this be possible? Would it look bad and how would I go about asking?
