Asking PE firm for Early Start / Quitting IB Job Early
Curious if anyone here has thoughts on or experience with either trying to move up the start date of a PE job offer (say it’s for a year out) or leaving banking early before starting their PE job (say January before a July start).
Open to any experiences or thoughts!
I haven’t heard of anyone reaching out to ask for an early start (mostly I’ve heard firms reaching out themselves to ask associates to start early) but I think given the current climate it couldn’t hurt.
Would frame along the lines of, “Since things are undoubtedly busier, I wanted to check in to see if X was thinking about calling up associates early. If so, I’m happy to help out”
Yeah that is similar to how I was thinking about it. Understand it’s not exactly the norm, but basically trying to solve for the variable of shortening time in banking one way or another without jeopardizing PE offer. Understand it may just be what it is at this point.
Think carefully about if PE is really what you want to do if you seem to detest banking so much. You will still be operating models at the lower levels of PE and work to some extent is not so different from banking. Perhaps even added pressure given that stakes are much higher now
