Associate constantly cc’ing MD and D

Every time my assoc. asks me to do something he cc’s my MD and D in the email. Or if he’s following up on the status of something he does the same. Absolutely infuriates me. Just ask me straight up bro. I don’t mind my MD/D knowing (I’m never late on things/nor do I have an issue being told to do things) however I don’t get why he does that. He’s the only one too, like he’s tryna make it seem like he’s doing something.

Am I right to feel this way or unhinged ?

Based on previous WSO threads, it's understandable to feel frustrated when an associate constantly CC's senior management (MD and D) on routine tasks or follow-ups. Here are some points to consider:

  1. Perception of Micromanagement: It can feel like micromanagement or a lack of trust in your ability to complete tasks independently.
  2. Visibility and Accountability: The associate might be doing this to ensure visibility and accountability, both for you and themselves. It could be a way to show senior management that they are actively managing the workflow.
  3. Communication Style: Different people have different communication styles. The associate might believe that keeping everyone in the loop is the best practice, even if it feels excessive to you.
  4. Professionalism: While it might be annoying, maintaining professionalism is key. Addressing the issue directly with the associate in a constructive manner could help. You could suggest that they trust you to handle tasks without always involving senior management unless it's necessary.

In summary, your feelings are valid, but understanding the possible reasons behind the associate's actions can help you address the situation more effectively.
