Associate Lateraling Mid-Year: What Happens with Bonus?
Say you lateral later this summer as a 2nd year associate, what happens to your bonus in jan/feb? Is it a lot lower because you only worked for your new firm for a few months? Do they offer to provide you with some upfront cash to cover the future lower bonus?
You should negotiate with your new bank to pay you a full year bonus come bonus time. You’re typically not going to get paid out in cash for the time upfront but it’s standard for your new bank to fully pay your bonus.
How can you be an associate 2 and ask a question this retarded? Jesus fucking Christ dude, either use leverage and negotiate a full year bonus as part of your move, or tuck your sack between your legs and take a prorated bonus. Either way, with your critical reasoning skills, long-term banking may not be for you.
