Associate Promo or Saying Bye to Banking
Third year / 4th year analyst now lateraled into global MM Bank (e.g, Baird, HW, Nomura). Was at a small shop before coming over. Told before taking the role I would be evaluated year end for associate.Fast forward, we are beginning the review process and I'm unsure where my career goes from here in banking so would appreciate anyone that could provide some insight and advice that has been involved with the decision making process.Received pretty positive mid-year reviews. Nothing really negative and to keep up hard work. Then had some instances where I didn't present myself in the best light (too sleep deprived and work quality got sloppy sometimes, being late to one meeting and not being up to make last minute changes, and overpromising sometimes on delivery of work product but actually taking way longer). As a third year, I've been getting staffed with first years and working directly with VPs in my group. I end up getting put on way more deals than others and also have to end up doing all the work which is frustrating because the first years really don't know anything, plus im new myself and understanding how group still operates.Long story short, I'm a hard worker but sometimes I feel like it was not fair but at same time understand I should be expecting this and be able to handle.I'm most curious what goes on from here for someone who has the years of experience, knows how to do the work but at times the work may not be the best and take long to complete. Definitely not the ideal candidate for what they are look for simply put it. For some additional color, team is small (2 associates) and cut couple guys recently so I know I was least not performing the worst.Do they just say we've decided to part ways and tell you to leave with senior bankers helping you find something else or just give you the promo and try to help you grow into the role? Lastly, I just don't feel like any VPs will strongly vouch for me at this point and don't get a long with any that well to be honest on personal level. Rarely talk in the office unless I have to.
Apologies in advance for the grammar and typos…
Anyone?
it’s hard to qualify you for advice because you didn’t really provide anything besides your current situation at your firm. Which to summary for those who don’t want to read a block of text, is mediocre performance and relationships.
What are your interests? Do you want to be an associate - both at the firm and in general? Do you like the job?
