Auburn

I have a bad undergraduate resume from Auburn but currently I work for a broker/dealer and make pretty good money about 65k in Alabama. But I would like to get into IB. Due to me fucking around on my undergraduate would I be able to get a online MBA while working and get into IB ? Or what would be the path to do that. I only work around 45 hours a week so I have a lot of free time.

I actually am currently having a convo with a associate at a nearby investment bank. Was trying to think of the best way to respond to his last email and ask if we could meet sometime.

Given your lighter workload--I would do two things:

1) Attempt to network like crazy to get into a boutique or anywhere that is willing to take you.

2) Buckle down and take the GMAT. The score lasts 5 years and will give you an option to attend a full time program as a means to break in. This seems like the most logical and likely route, assuming you can put together a compelling app to a top 15/20 program where there is an IB pipeline.

I do not think a IB would take me until I get my MBA. In the meantime I was going to do this until I have been a full year( 5 more months) then try to be a regular analyst for a bank while doing a MBA. That will give me real experience closer to IB I would think and will allow time to build connections and a strong resume. I know the head of IB at Jeffries but don’t want to contact him until I start a MBA program. Because I fill that would be wasting that contact

I would echo what other people have said, but also want to make sure the distinction is clear: an online MBA is viewed very differently (for better or for worse). I understand the appeal that you can keep working but they are vastly different experiences and outcomes in terms of recruiting.

If you can get a GMAT in the range for a top 20 or so school, you should really consider going and recruiting via the standardized process.

Don't even think about an online MBA unless your employer asks you to take it in order to get promoted and you absolutely love your Company.

You should network your way into a boutique IB as well as take the GMAT and apply to Top 20 schools.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

You typically need probably 3-6 years of work experience for decent MBA programs. Not sure when you graduated so that may or may not be an issue. I would definitely in your case first lateral to a boutique or small IB or another good alternative is a somewhat well known company (F500), which will help your MBA application chances.

It also matters... how bad was your undergrad? 3.0? 2.5?

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
