Background check - Incorrect dates

Hey guys, so I've recently landed a position at a BB, however realised i made a mistake on dates for one of my positions. I have 6 proper internships on my CV (all fine), however at the end of my CV is a casual uni student ambassador position which has incorrect dates. It lists (xxx 2015 - Present) when, (found out today) my employment was terminated as at Jan 2017.

Have a couple of questions on this:
- Would this impact my offer?
- What is the best course of action to deal with this?
- Given I have had heaps of internships and that this position is a casual uni pos, would i even list this on the employment check form?

How did you just find out recently that you were terminated seven months ago?

  1. No, it sounds relatively minor when compared to six accurate and more relevant internships.
  2. If it is minor and HR won't even contact you about it, coming clean and saying you forgot/didn't know could be your best bet when/if it does come up.
  3. Absolutely. If it falls in the given timeframe that they ask on employment, you must list it no matter how minor. This only applies if you are considered an employee, and not a volunteer.

Cheers, reply much appreciated.

I didn't realise as they told me I'd be retained (obvs didnt follow through), and its casual opt-in work. Regardless, I probably shouldve put more thought in when updating CV.

Will probably just email now, as I just found out. Would you think thats better than waiting for the background screen to pick it up? Or does it make it seem more serious if i email now?

This is good since it shows error on their end.

If you are going to bring it up, doing so now is the best move since you're just finding out. It shows transparency with the information you just received. If you do send an email, it'll look better than them possibly finding out later, though again this volunteer position sounds so minor it should not impact the offer.

It is typically the date you graduated. If asking for a range, state the time your first semester started and your final one concluded.

Charlie Chaplin entered a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest in Monte Carlo and came in third. Now that's a story. This... is something else.
