BAML in Charlotte

After looking through the forum there aren’t very many recent post about BAML Charlotte. I do not have many contacts within IBD or capital markets but was curious if anyone knows what groups are in charlotte.

I know 5 years ago they had a strong LevFin group there and I believe RE coverage is there. I could be wrong.

Thanks, I lived a year in Charlotte and trained with the whitewater Olympic Team and would love to get a chance to go back.

Are there groups left at BAML, thats interesting.

I feel like real estate, of FIG could be solid in Charlotte with less expense than nyc. Maybe I’ll start my own BB IB, can’t be that hard, right?

To my knowledge it's really just some remnants of the LevFin team. A lot of the senior people (Director and up) left to other banks (i.e. SunTrust), or moved internally within the bank. Think there's still some junior guys there but not many. Pretty sure a few of them moved to NY as well.

Basically the co-head of the group that was CLT based ended up getting to oversee the whole group and moved to NY. When he moved to NY, the folks in CLT weren't really protected any more and the shift started to happen to almost exclusively NY.

There's also some investment grade debt / rates people on the floor in CLT, but don't think there's any RE or FIG. If I were focused on Charlotte IB today, I probably wouldn't be focused on BAML.

It's possible the above is no longer correct, but I'm like 85% sure it is

Can attest to statements made above. Charlotte BAML is really on a tough spot now mostly because internal shifts and high turnover. BAML Charlotte used to have a very strong LevFin group but recent changes have impacted the group in a negative way. With all these being said, the LevFin group is still a decent group just not as good as it once was. BAML also has Asset Backed Finance group in Charlotte but from what I heard, many are also relocating to NYC.

I would rather live in Angola than NYC but if I get to do something I want NYC is ok. Thanks to all those who helped.

I just don't care for the northeastern attitude and lifestyle. I have been to the city a few times and have not been very impressed. If I had the opportunity to work in Houston/Dallas, Chicago, California, even Charlotte/Atlanta/Miami, I would jump at them well before ever considering NYC. However, I will give you that the opportunities for career development are much better in New York than elsewhere and I'm willing to be pragmatic about it and work there if I have to.

Queen's is only 10 minutes (even with traffic) from uptown, and I believe rent is only around $400/month. Most interns in the Charlotte area live at Queen's, and it's a good way to meet people. I lived there two summers during undergrad. That being said, there were a number of interns who were able to rent rooms at the CityView Towers (???) last year for similar rent. The rooms are maybe a little nicer, and you could walk to work instead of driving.
