It’s not like any groups want to hire inexperienced analysts.. that’s the point of the internship and campus recruiting.

All other laterals are experienced or come from a similar field, like from DCM to coverage IB as an example

Many interns didnt receive return offers last year due to headcount issues/tight market.
what about them?

They try to re-recruit or take another job? What kind of question is this?

What do you mean what kind of question is this lol

many interns didnt get return offers AND banks are only hiring experienced analysts rn. so how do those interns get back to banking given that they are NOT a 2nd year analyst?

obv they can re recruit n look for other options. Some people are dead set to get into banking but markets are bad.
this question was more like looking for advice kinda question. If you dont have anything to offer then get why bother commenting lol

dont know why you’re getting ms lol Im also in a tough spot but it is what it is - theres no advice out there besides re-recruit and lower standards

Lateral analyst hiring has always been for experienced hires. Typically the process is straightforward. If you’re working at a regional boutique and want to move to a middle market or EB, you would network and chat with a few guys on the team and if they have positive sentiment towards your candidacy they’d bring you in for interviews where you’d talk through the deals you work on and answer technical questions. Occasionally there is a case study or modeling test as well.

Lateral hires as an analyst to a bank is always tricky because the standard recruiting process of taking fresh college grads just works and is what HR and the banks are used to. If the team is busy and lean and an analyst leaves long before 2 years. Then they will do a lateral hiring process. Not a lot of teams are in the position rn (not lean they did layoffs actually, and not super busy market is down) so there is a glut of supply and little demand.

as a bank, why go thru the headache of a lateral hire just to get him 6 months earlier than a fresh analyst?

You’re wrong on this one. There are skill sets that laterals “just get” versus fresh grads, which is why these firms prefer experienced hires right now. Many people, including myself have navigated the lateral market and I can tell you that they’re pretty much open to a lot of people from different backgrounds as long as you network. Sometimes the process can be easier than going through the traditional summer route depending on who you are and your experience.
