BB Credit Risk exits

Hi all,

@Credit risk bankers at BBs, what are some exits you have seen and after how long in Credit risk? The credit risk role is to do with corporate and leveraged lending, where the BB uses it's balance sheet for M&A/LBO or for lending to corporates.

Thanks :)

If you have more exposure towards credit research side (more alignment with Industry groups), then switch to "ER" is easier than other verticals. If you have more exposure towards trade approval side (more alignment with Product groups)of the role, then switch to "Corporate banking" is easier. A tougher but possible switch can be "Leveraged finance", though for this getting entrenched in Credit risk for >2-3 years would be a negative factor. There is also the possibility to switch to Private Credit side, Rating agencies etc. latter being the easier & less rewarding.

More in line with levfin. Now you'd be making credit sections in Memo, and in levfin. it's much more frontend exposure, overall picture of the deals. There in levfin. also, getting into syndication roles as against origination roles would be more competitive as well as lucrative. Private credit would be a natural progression if you are in distressed debt (workout & restructuring) group in CR now, which isn't that common.

Yes, you can definitely make the move to levfin or pc. Both are quite common although I haven’t seen many move to a big pc fund from credit risk. Exits aside, going into levfin might be beneficial to get some deal experience; I’m guessing the bulk of your current job is portfolio monitoring and approving new financings so getting deal/origination experience will be beneficial and almost certainly give you a better shot recruiting for pc. You’re probably aware of this but given the current market I’m not sure levfin teams will be doing much recruiting this year.
