BB off-cycle internship while attending LSE
Wondering about 4 things:
-
The feasibility of undertaking an off-cycle internship while attending LSE General Course Year (undergraduate)
-
The recruitment time table for off-cycle internships in London
-
How off-cycle internships transition to FT offers (considering only US passport)
Background:
-Junior at a non-target.
-Interning at a primarily sell-side tech M&A boutique firm this summer.
-Senior year will be spent at LSE. Only US passport.
-Looking to build a network at a larger firm. Primary focus IB - insights into consulting or Asset Management also appreciated.
-Curious about feasibility of attending school and interning, the process/timeline for securing an off-cycle internships in London, how the internship leads to FT offers (in US or London) considering passport constraints.
If anyone may have particular insights and/or would be willing to discuss more, please feel free to pm.
-Thanks all
*4. If efforts should be focused on full time recruiting in the fall as opposed to focusing on attaining an off-cycle internship.
1) If i'm not wrong off-cycle intern positions at BBs/EBs/Top MMs are full time (at least the ones in my bank were)
2) If you're not a UK/EU citizen, you can't work above 20hrs a week (assuming you're under a tier 4 student Visa)
3) With these 2 points in mind, and given you have some relevant experience already i would say focus on applying FT. If you like London i think it might be doable (Most reputable firms generally sponsor, although some EBs prefer not to), but i would presume you have a better chance in the US due to your background.
Patatohead123,
Thank you for the feedback. I will have a tier 4 student Visa. To follow up 2 things come to mind:
Any insights and advice towards FT recruiting in NYC while at LSE -And firms with higher chances of FT offers (or any potential links to good related threads)
Thoughts on off-cycle internships post-graduation (open ended topic)
- Would it make sense? Are they attainable?
I know quite a few people that took off cycles after grad in UK, tricky to get though
Not sure since i'm based in london.
Do you not graduate in the summer? Might be hard to get since your Visa will expire in about 3-4 months after graduation. This is the case for Bsc/Msc programs so i'm assuming its the same for somebody on exchange. All the off-cycle interns i've met are UK/EU citizens so based on anecdotal evidence it might not be available to you.
