BB Transaction Services attempting to lateral
Monkeys,
I'm looking for some advice. Top tier university graduate in the middle of my second year at DB in their transaction services division but I find the work to mundane in terms of what you do. I do not feel I am either acquiring additional financial knowledge nor really using the basics I came in with so I am looking to lateral to IB. Before you jump on me to flame me and tell me it's impossible here are some details:
1) Took Transaction Services due to being the best I could getand being foreign (Basically didn't want to leave the US)
2) Top university, competitive GPA
3) Internship in BB Corporate Banking, BB FICC Treasury, small investment club 1-5MM
4) Received an offer to join an IB team within the BB but HR considered it against internal policy and did not vet it (I know skeptics might find this sounds a bit like BS but my contract actually explicitly says I can't move)
I am presently interviewing with an infrastructure fund but it looks like a longshot in terms of getting Visa sponsorship and I am substantially frustrated an looking for some advice on where to look. Also this seems like a long shot since the backgrounds of the other interviewees are M&A IB analysts so I am continuing to look around to any and all potential lateral opportunities.
Any of you in a similar boat? Should I look at Regional Boutiques (Do they ever sponsor H1Bs)? Any of you feeling particularly generous and feel like screening me and seeing if you can refer me to someone at your firm that might be looking?
Any and all help is appreciated so thanks in advance.
I am surprised your contract said that as I have heard DB likes to keep their own.
Have a friend who did something similar. Which part of GTB are you in? May give a good indication of where you could reasonably lateral to.
It sounds like you are networking fine to get the initial screen the next move is tailoring your search to something reasonable.
Cowboy pardon excessive need for secrecy but just in case I prefer to keep details since the experience above left me on a bit of thin ice. I think I would have a good shot in smaller firms perhaps but my concern is that I am not clear on which one of them would sponsor and thus I am finding it difficult to focus my efforts. Also, my experience with recruiters is mixed since they seem to be more interested in "sure thing" type hirings.
Alluding to your comment below, any idea on what would be "something reasonable" that would be within a company that would be in a position to sponsor a visa? Please excuse the specificity of the question, I know it may be unreasonable but hopefully you have some intl friends that were in similar experiences and can offer some extremely useful advice.
