Top groups: GS TMT and FIG, MS M&A and Menlo Tech
Menlo isn’t NY…
Lol, reading comprehension is a skill that takes consistent effort. It depends on how you weigh "best". Best for what? If you want the best WLB for both firms probably consumer retail. If you want the highest pay, probably GS TMT and MS M&A (but by maybe 10-20k a year, you pay your taxes and it barely makes a difference). For exits most groups will give you a great shot, certain verticals will open up or be restricted a bit more than others like NRG and FIG, however, it's by no means a 1 way street to becoming a commodities trader or central banker. As someone who is at GS I think perhaps the best methodology of ranking is by pure dominance. Dominance as in when there is a big deal that is going to happen, what is the % chance this group is on it. If we weigh it by that it would probably be FIG, TMT, HC in that order.
GS: TMT, FIG, Industrials
Not sure about industrials. A hyper competitive sector across the street and it doesn’t help that their culture is one of the most brutal at GS second to only TMT
Goldman is far and away the best industrials group. I was an analyst in Industrials at a competing BB. Their name is on literally every book. Definitely a brutal culture though.
MS: M&A, Media/Comms, Sponsors, GPUG
How's MS healthcare? Is it strong/reputable for exits?
