Those are the most touristy ones - check out Boracay / Palawan Islands in Philippines, party in Bangkok / Ho Chi Minh City for nightlife, trawl Singapore / Kuala Lumpur for good food and its a good life
Would also add Koh Rong in Cambodia to the list
IMO Singapore is incredibly boring. I am currently living in SG and have been here for the past 2.5 months, however it is a great place to travel out of because flights are so cheap and it is centrally located.

Went to Cairns and Sydney this May with my girlfriend, awesome vacation. Easily in the top 3 of places I've visited.
The one that doesn't blown up because of a MD needing a pitch for this "multi $B take-private bakeoff" that is "slightly outside our wheelhouse but still feel like there is a shot".

My top two: 1) Eight nights in Ibiza (Ushuaïa on the beach) 2) Prague and Munich for Oktoberfest (five days followed by four days)
Why don't you go tosome sort of interesting mountain range instead of the Mid West...?
During Investment Banking I only took bullshit vacations because I needed to be available to work for the majority of them and was shamed into only taking 5 days over the course of my Analyst years.
Post-IBK, my three favorite trips have probably been Banff, Zermatt, and hiking through El Chalten and Torres del Paine in Patagonia.
My favorites: 1. Iceland - very accessible from NYC/east coast, and short flight, and probably the highest concentration of natural beauty in the world. Idea time to go is late September to now 2. Amalfi Coast - great food, super relaxing, very beautiful. 3. Budapest - a ton to do and see, and alcohol is super cheap

I'd 100% recommend Japan. Different enough that you will enjoy the cultural differences, developed enough that you can get easily from point A to point B, heaps of cool temples, food is amazing, beer is great, party scene is solid but the trains don't run late so that can be a little bit of an issue.
Definitely go to Kyoto to fill up your insta/pretty place desires, and then go to Osaka or Tokyo or both to get that cosmopolitan Japan experience. I went to Osaka, and I'm heading to Tokyo for a few days in Jan before a trip to Vietnam.
South Island New Zealand is also really good, especially if you tack on a hike or two and do a road trip around the place.
Just got back from Japan. Such an interesting place, helped that I was out there for the rugby too!
I totally agree with you. It's somewhere I was dreaming about travelling to for years and finally spent a couple of weeks in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Nara in May, and it completely blew me away. Tokyo is unbelievably fun with so much to do, amazing food, and the countryside is just beautiful beyond belief. If you're a movie buff, definitely stay at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku; it's where Lost in Translation was filmed, and it's a terrific hotel.

What do you want to get out of your trip? Do you want it to be active or relaxing? How much time do you have? Budget?

Looking for a relaxing trip with some activities available (ie. not just a hiking trip or a trip to sit on the beach the whole time) for about a week. I'm entry level so on an analyst budget (would like to keep around or below $5K)
Ok, I'll Suggest Tenerife Spain in the canary islands. Stayed at the RC there recently, surprisingly good value at roughly 200 euro a night. Flights can be booked quite cheaply as well and there are lots of activities to do throughout the island from sailing los gigantes to hiking a volcano to view the stars. When I Stayed I took a taxi into town every night for dinner with the MS, where there's lots of things to do so didn't have the feeling of being trapped in the resort.
Also don't discount the potential networking you can accomplish in these places, you never know who you'll meet.
If you really want to go to Midwest mountains, Badlands National Park is the best thing I can tell you.

I just looked around for like an hour because I didn’t have much time, but I can tell you it is one of the best parks out there.
What’s also great is that it is next to Wyoming and Mt. Rushmore so you can then go other places in the West.
