Best Watches for IB Analysts

Ok so I have little to no knowledge about luxury watches, but I was wondering if any of you guys have any brand recommendations. I’m hoping to not break the bank or seem like I’m trying to flex on the team too hard. Are there any solid, less expensive alternatives to Rolex’s?

There are plenty alternatives to Rolex. What's your price range? Nomos makes some nice pieces and do their own movements, which are largely the preserve of more expensive watches. Omega makes some very nice pieces but they're pretty well-recognized so you may not fly under the radar. Ebel, Grand Seiko, also great watches with awesome finishing for the price. You can pick up some used Girard Perregaux for not a lot of money as well.

Omega: the Globemaster has a similar look to Rolex's Datejust and the Speedmaster is their version of the Daytona (with equally impressive pedigree)

Tudor: the black bay is very similar to a Submariner

IWC: some can be had for not too much (Da Vinci, Portofino)

Cartier: some call it a women's brand, but the Tank and Santos models are affordable

& not exactly known for their watches, but some Montblancs are very good looking IMO

+1 for Nomos. Also like Junghans too (more affordable if you're into Bauhaus style watches - don't get the quartz version though).

Edit: Honestly, nobody gives a shit what you wear as long as it's 1) not a blatant fake 2) not overly ostentatious.

Don't shell out thousands for a watch just because you feel pressured to do so. An Apple Watch is a perfect choice since that's such a common thing and won't break the bank. To be perfectly honest I used to wear like max $100 quartz watches and nobody ever said anything. People are often less into watches than you think and won't know the difference between a ridiculously overpriced Daniel Wellington and a $5k Nomos.

Why would you not get a quartz Junghans specifically if you don’t mind me asking?

Go on Chrono24 and look around for a preowned watch. These won’t depreciate as badly as getting a brand new one. First thing you do when the watch arrives is authenticate it and if it doesn’t check out, send it back and dispute the charge on your credit card.

In terms of brands, you can’t go wrong with a Rolex Datejust. If you insist on not getting a Rolex, a preowned JLC or IWC won’t break the bank and they make some awesome watches. Omega has some nice watches too if you want something more recognizable.

Side note, I’m not sure why people insist that analysts in IB should look dirt poor. There are tons of analysts across all banks who wear subs and $20K APs and no one gives a shit. Those more senior than you make more and don’t care about you enough to comb through your spending habits.

Nixon all-gold is pretty sick you can buy @ pacsun or buy bulk on Alibaba and get a different color for each day of the week, females in New York are known to get quite excited when they see a fella flashing the nixon on the subway

Also g-shock I got compliments from the head of ibd when I wore mine last summer I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten a return offer if i wasn't wearing it actually I got more compliments than the dumbass intern wearing his grandaddy's rollie (who, by the way didn't get a return) I was hella shocked it got such positive reviews.

Scratch that I was more than just shocked

I was G-Shocked
