The company will provide you with a laptop, otherwise you won't be able to access internal software/databases/intranet etc.
This isn't true - there are instances where you will access your company's databases via a virtual desktop environment.
I'd recommend any Windows PC to allow you to fully utilize keyboard shortcuts.
Do quality of it really matter or can a solid like 8 or 16gp RAM work fine under like $5-600?
Would it work? Sure... but you'll be spending basically all your time on that thing. Can't presume to know your financial situation but going in on a ~1k - 1.5k laptop will probably make your life easier.

I bought a really good quality laptop but it didn’t matter using a virtual desktop. Virtual desktops will lag if your firms servers suck regardless of your hardware (all processes aren’t actually happening in your computer)

Dell xps 15. Best windows laptop for the money hands down. Unless of course you want to walk around with a gaming laptop.
